Theme park Toverland reveals details new water attraction
In two weeks’ time, Toverland opens a new entrance called Port Laguna and a new theme area called Avalon. Today, a making-of series about the construction of those new areas, revealed more details about one of their new attractions: Merlin’s Quest.
Visitors of water attraction Merlin’s Quest can enjoy a 12-minute boat ride across the waters of Avalon. During this ride, visitors will sail underneath the ruins of a castle where the search starts for Tir na nÓg, the source of eternal life. “This so-called darkride enables us to create stunning effects”, says technical director Paul Oomen. “At least eighteen moving characters can be seen. The biggest animatronic is over two-and-a-half metres tall.” The darkride lasts for two minutes and takes its visitors along four indoor scenes.
Merlin’s world
Merlin’s Quest is a part of Avalon, the world of Merlin the almighty wizard. This family attraction is built by German company MACK Rides. A total of 14 boats will sail across a 430 metre long track. Each boat has room for 16 passengers and two boats are also suitable for disabled persons. Avalon also contains a spectacular wing coaster called Fēnix. This rollercoaster stands at an impressive height of forty metres and inverts three times.
Port Laguna and Avalon open their doors to visitors on Saturday 7 July 2018. It is the largest expansion in the history of the 17-year-old theme park. It involves an investment of 35 million euros. The making-of episode of Merlin’s Quest can be watched via Toverland’s own YouTube-channel.
